As a founding partner of JSDC Law Offices, Max J. Smith, Jr.’s legal career spans nearly four decades as a premier family law practitioner in Central Pennsylvania. Max is a graduate of Central Dauphin High School (1973), Juniata College (1977) and The University of Dayton School of Law (1980). He is admitted to practice before all Pennsylvania state courts and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
At JSDC Max’s practice focuses on all aspects of family law, with emphasis on child custody, divorce and child and spousal support. He has considerable experience handling divorce cases of all types, from the most complex to the more straightforward. He has an extensive background managing high-conflict custody cases, highlighted by a case that found him working closely with local, state and federal officials to successfully return four children to their mother after being abducted by their father and taken to the Middle Eastern country of Jordan.
Max is adept at resolving cases through negotiation and collaboration and is an exceptionally skilled litigator. He is a member of the Family Law divisions of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Dauphin County Bar Association. He is also a licensed real estate title insurance agent.
Outside of JSDC, he serves on the board of the Central Pennsylvania Umpires Association and has coached baseball and basketball and served on the board of the Linglestown Baseball Association for twenty-five years. He resides in Lower Paxton Township and is married with three children and two grandchildren.
